Large Ant Colony - Formica obscuripes

These ants were busy working a very large ant hill approximately three feet in diameter. The surface was swarming with ants around 1:00 pm on a partially cloudy day. Please help with genus/species. The nest was located at the perimeter of a prairie grassland.
