Bug in my garage - Elaphidion mucronatum

Bug in my garage - Elaphidion mucronatum
Westchester County, New York, USA
July 20, 2007
Size: Body only, 1" ~ 2"
I started seeing these on the inside of my garage door a week ago, a dozen at a time. They come out after dark, a few seem to hide in cracks. Some make their way inside the house and will hide behind a telephone and pop out at the wrong moment. Slow moving, can jump/fly only a few feet it seems. Make no sounds, no make attempt to run away. This is a smaller sample.

Moved
Moved from Longhorned Beetles.

This looks like
a long horned beetle, Cerambycidae.

It is.
Pretty sure this is the "spined oak borer", Elaphidion mucronatum. You may want to stack the firewood outside:-) Specimens with very long antennae are males.

Thanks!
Thanks for your help, Now I have to tell my wife she was right about the firewood!
