red-white-black beetle - Disonycha alternata

red-white-black beetle - Disonycha alternata
Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada
May 8, 2004
Size: 6-7 mm
Reminds me of Troy's image although the color of the stripes is reversed - more like the photo of Disonycha latifrons at Cedar Creek but with thinner black stripes. I chased this thing for 5 minutes on the east beach; it acted like a tiger beetle, repeatedly flying for 10-20 metres whenever I got close.
