Bombus Teranarius and Huntii? - Bombus huntii - Male Female
Warden, Grant County, Washington, USA
July 20, 2007
The image on the left I believe is Bombus Ternarius and the center and right Bombus Huntii? The gal on the left and center is at least 3 times bigger and appears to have smoother hair on it's back and darker wings. I apaologize for some of the fuzziness. Also I have noticed the smaller one seem to "nap" from time to time burying their heads under a flower and sitting motionless for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Is this unusuall for this to happen? Sun and temp. don't seem to matter and I have seen several do this over the past few days.

Huntii?
I did notice another post from Kerry S. Matz of a Bombus Huntii from Utah. It would appear from his I.D. that my photo would also be Bombus Huntii (on the right) Except that where his photo shows black feet, this one has orange feet. Is it possible I have them backwards or that perhaps this is a variation in color.
