Globular Springtail - Allacma fusca

Globular Springtail - Allacma fusca
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 20, 2007

Thanks Frans
Another new genus and species for the guide. I'm still looking for new ones, but most that I'm finding are ones I've already photographed.

Allacma (Trochopilosa) purpurescens
Allacma fusca, given the black uniform colour, forma picea (an infraspecific colour form) was my first ID.

But comparing it with your new recent picture, I would not consider it anymore as Allacma s.s.. The 4th antennal segment is too long...

Allacma (Trochopilosa) purpurescens is placed in a special subgenus of Allacma: Trochopilosa.

Sorry for the confusion caused...
