This is not H. triangularis
This species is Hydrophilus (Dibolocelus) ovatus, not triangularis. The primary difference is in prosternal keel (not visible in these photos), but the reduced pubescence on the abdomen (visible in third photo) also sperates this species from the other US species in the genus. Triangularis is also more narrow and less humpy-backed.

Thanks for the quick lesson and correction in separating the two. I had used the Peterson Guide to Beetles by White. Apparently this other species was not mentioned. I'm glad you caught this mistake. What should I add a photo of so that others can see the difference?
