Tropidia albistylum
Triangular projection beneath on swollen and very arched hind femur.
The orange-red base to all femora and the red ring band on hind tibia and lack of stripes on dorsum separates this from Tropidia quadrata.

Bill- thanks greatly for your identification with commentary, it being Tropidia albistylum .... male. My image submission appears identical to Photo#1036010.

This will be Syrphid fly species # 9 now identified at our 150 yard "Pollinator Garden Berm", wonderful biological pest controle for the aphids on our 8 milkweed species we have planted for the migrating Monarch, as well as the Queen.
