ringtail dragonfly -
Erpetogomphus designatus

Not sure if this is the Eastern Ringtail, or the White-belted Ringtail. Any thoughts? Male or female? Will include two more views.

Eastern
I know I shouldn't be basing an ID strictly on range, but it's pretty compelling in this case. Eastern Ringtail is well-known from most of Kansas, while White-belted Ringtail is unknown from anywhere too near KS. White-belted would not show as much yellow in the abdominal and thoracic pale areas, too. This one's a female based on the terminal appendages. So female Eastern Ringtail (
Erpetogomphus designatus
) it is.

Will do Will
Hi Will. I have seen quite a few of these in the past week. I am new to dragonflies, took my first in May. This shot and others were taken at the Land Institute near Salina. A great place, as they have tried to keep several sections of land original prairie. There were many Halloween Pennants also.
