Pepsis Buckwheat Singles Bar - Blackie - Pepsis mexicana - male

Pepsis Buckwheat Singles Bar - Blackie - Pepsis mexicana - Male
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA
July 23, 2007
Size: 3/4" Bl (guess)
I should have checked IDs at the door. Five species of what I think were all Pepsis kept flying in and out of this patch of buckwheat. In the same neighborhood were sa*nd wasps at a purple flower bar and Pepsis mil*dei at a milkweed bar.

P. mexicana, male.
This is a male of Pepsis mexicana.

Thanks
While watching these guys buzz in and out, I was thinking you'd have enjoyed the scene. (Two years ago, it would have scared me to death!)
