June 27, 2016: collected a couple of leaf mid-vein pouch galls on Ceanothus spp. Galls appeared empty
September 30, 2016: collected similar leaf mid-vein pouch galls on Ceanothus herbaceus in Dinesen Prairie, Shelby County, IA. They were also empty.
C. Eiseman says: "Seems like a reasonable match for Gagné's Contarinia sp., figure 372" and yes it does. Under Ceanothus Gagné says: "Simple vein fold...Swellings are visible from beneath the leaf and are usually covered with fuzz; only a slit is evident abve. Full-grown larvae escape through the slit in July."
