I don't think this is Gnamptopelta obsidianator...
Note the laterally flattened metasoma. Members of the subfamily Ichneumoninae (like Ganamptopelta) generally do not have this character. I am almost certain this is an ophionine, specifically Thyreodon atricolor (a parasitoid of sphingids). Members of Ophioninae always possess a laterally flattened metasoma. I also have a feeling most of the Gnamptopelta images in the guide are misidentified Thyreodon. I'll send a couple of images to Dave Wahl for confirmation and get back to you.

What about this?
This is the one I based my ID on, if its wrong I need to re-label it in my collection

Nope.
The image in your link is also Thyreodon atricolor. The only Gnamptopelta species I agree with so far is this one: http://bugguide.net/node/view/63229. See how the metasoma is NOT laterally flattened? Contrast that image with ophionines (including Thyreodon, like your specimen): http://bugguide.net/node/view/43468/bgpage. See the similarity?

Gnamptopelta obsidianator
Gnamptopelta obsidianator is my guess... It's a wasp and a member of the Ichneumonid family. I have a specimen of this so I'm pretty confident

I had a feeling it belonged t
I had a feeling it belonged to the Ichneumonid family as per photos I saw, but couldn't get to the right ones. Thanks, and you are right.

Cheers,
