Black and red beetle - Trichodes nutalli

Black and red beetle - Trichodes nutalli
Finland, Lake County, Minnesota, USA
July 22, 2007
As we left Wolf Ridge and drove down Rt 6 to Finland, we stopped along the road at a wet swale. This beetle had his head buried in a buttercup. We're thinking it might be Trichodes.

Moved
Moved from Checkered Beetles.

Looks most like T. nutalli
to me due to the lesser amount of red on the elytra.
