Caterpillars on Viburnum Trilobum - Pyrrhalta viburni

Caterpillars on Viburnum Trilobum - Pyrrhalta viburni
Lexington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 30, 2016
Size: 1 cm
I am trying to grow native plant species to support biodiversity in my yard. This plant was decimated in the location shown, but another of the same species did okay on the other side of the yard so I moved this one next to it.

Viburnum leaf beetle
The introduced viburnum leaf beetle has been decimating viburnum plants in recent years. The most vulnerable species seems to be arrowwood, Viburnum dentatum.
I found a few arrowwoods that seem resistant to this invasive pest. I intend to gather seeds and give them to others. Maybe we can start restoring the populations of arrowwoods this way. Treasure the one you have. Its seeds may be valuable, too.
