Small Grasshopper - Melanoplus sanguinipes

Small Grasshopper - Melanoplus sanguinipes

Size: ~1in

Moved
Moved from Melanoplus.

Melanoplus sanguinipes
You can see the subgenital plate, and it is almost certainly M. sanguinipes. Another species that can have a similar shape to this plate, but usually different coloration, is M. angustipennis. That species likes sand, and is "smoother" looking, less speckled with usually a shiny solid black bar extending back from the eye.

Melanoplus sp., male.
This is one of the spur-throated grasshoppers, genus Melanoplus. Cannot ID without examining male genitalia.
