We can confidently attribute this superb male to the genus Tenthredo. Several Southern European species are quite similar.

I suspected this, but this is my first live encounter. Just noticed a remarkable resemblance to one posted by Tom Murray, taken in the Sierra Nevada (see T. ornaticeps ). What do you think?
