Herbivory, black locust

Herbivory, black locust
East Okoboji Slough, Dickinson County, Iowa, USA

Hostplant is black locust, I believe. The leaf mines are presumably from Parectopa robiniella, the locust digitate leafminer. What I'm curious about is the feeding sign around the edges of the leaflets. It seems pretty distinctive. Anyone recognize it?

Closeup of leaflets here -- I posted this image under P. robiniella.
