Tiger Bee Fly - Xenox tigrinus

Tiger Bee Fly - Xenox tigrinus
Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 29, 2007
Size: 3/4 inch

Moved
Moved from Xenox simson.

Xenox tigrinus
This PDF doc shows tigrinus in the east, and considers the Arizona/California "Anthrax simson habrosus" a synonym of Xenox habrosus (i.e. no such species as Xenox simson).

also
Just noted there is a page for X. simson and it is listed in the taxonomy. There is a photo of X. simson on that page that is very similar to mine. Should I be labeling this latest one as X. S. habrosus? Appreciate your patience. :)

tigrinus
is the only Xenox species in the east, so this must be X. tigrinus

Unless the taxonomy has changed again since 2003, I think the BugGuide page named Xenox simson is a mistake, and should be named Xenox habrosus, a species restricted to Arizona, California, and Mexico (see PDF doc).

question
Robin, is this fly and the one in this message considered the same species even though there are differences in wing patterns and dorsal markings? Or is the one in this message an X. habrosus?

Thanks for your reply.
