black-tailed green plant bug - Lygocoris pabulinus

black-tailed green plant bug - Lygocoris pabulinus

Size: 6-7 mm
Came to porch light. This looks similar to Lygocoris pabulinus. The species is on the Nearctica list but most images on the Web are from Europe, where it is called Common Green Capsid (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Lew Scharpf posted a similar image here last fall. Can anyone confirm or correct this ID?

Moved
Moved from Plant Bugs to Common Green Capsid.

Okay, we'll go with that. I had saved the original page on my hard drive, so it was easy to copy the old info to the new page.

Thanks, WonGun.
It does look like that Calocoris image you linked to. My photo is not large enough or clear enough to distinguish the first two characteristics of L. pabulinus mentioned here, so I'll move it up to genus level for now.

Moved from Common Green Capsid to Miridae page.

I cannot help agreeing with your initial ID.
I could not find any other species or genus that look like this, and the image you linked is so similar.

I'm sorry for my hasty previous comments.

You're right...
It does not look like Calocoris. But, I'm not sure it is Lygocoris pabulinus since there are so many Lygocoris species. I think it will take time to ID it upto sepcies.

I think it's somewhat different from Lygocoris species

Of course,
this is not a North American species...

L. pabulinus
Image moved from Miridae section to new species page based on comparison with several web images linked to in Guide. L. pabulinus is on the Nearctica list and is called Common Green Capsid in Europe.

Update 7 Nov 2008: I've removed the L. pabulinus page, based on WonGun's comments and a further look at other possibilities.
