Blister Beetle ?? - Lytta polita - male - female

Blister Beetle ?? - Lytta polita - Male Female
Sanford, Seminole County, Florida, USA
March 18, 2005
This mating pair was identified as Blister Beetles by an IPM entomologist friend who did not know the scientific name. The red markings seem to differentiate this species from others shown in the Guide.

Lytta polita?
How about Lytta polita? Lynette has an image, though currently frassed:

Univ. Florida Featured Creatures article on Florida Blister Beetles says: "Lytta polita Say. Georgia border south to Charlotte and Highlands counties. December-June. Has been taken in large numbers at lights."

Sounds plausible. No other species in that genus are on the list for Florida in that document. A common name I see on the web is "Bronze Blister Beetle".

Thanks, Patrick
I just sent the photo to Dr. John Heppner at Florida Dept. of Plant Industry in the hope that he or one of their specialists can provide a positive ID. Given the commonality of the insect it is probably well known at DPI and I will not be surprised if your suggestion is confirmed.

Looks like L. polita
I've seen this, too, in North Carolina, and collected some references--listed in the guide page for L. polita--I think it is safe to move your image there.
