Megaphorus

Megaphorus
Tecuya Mtn. Rd. (9N22), Kern County, California, USA
July 27, 2007
Size: ~12 mm
Stenopogoninae (?) is my wild guess based on some, perhaps superficial, similarities.

Moved
Moved from Mallophora fautrix.
I'm certain this is not Mallorpha fautrix.
Eric Fisher has since responded to my question: "Your fly is a Megaphorus sp. (need more info to tell which one). This genus is closely related to Mallophora (Megaphorus used to be called Mallophorina); M. fautrix is about twice the size of this sp."

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.
