Decticita
Definitely a female of the genus Decticita, probably D. brevicauda.

No, this isn't a Roesel's Katydid - Metrioptera roeselii. California is home to nearly 60 species of shield-backed katydids so I'm not quite sure which yours is.

This is probably Roesel's Katydid (Metrioptera roeselii). A female.
