Parasitized slug caterpillar - Euclea

Parasitized slug caterpillar - Euclea
Red Oak Prairie, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
September 1, 2016
As I watched the parasitoid's movements it became apparent that the larva had some sort of flexible feeding appendage...kind of like a tongue. You can see the "tongue" (pointed black object attached to parasitoid) most clearly in these final two photos. From this image to the next one, note how the tongue has changed shape, taking on a curve as it excavates through the tissues of the host.
