We have an expert, but she hasn't commented in a while.
To aid in ID, please provide the name of the plant where you found the insect. Also advise if this is a solo insect or part of a colony. The photo from above is a good addition, and the other shot showing the hood can also be important.

Solo
On a large yellow "blackeyed-Susan-like" flower.
Also on some corn.
