Beetle In The Brush - Scarites subterraneus

Beetle In The Brush - Scarites subterraneus
Sand Springs, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
July 23, 2007
Size: 3/4"
Please help with ID.

Moved tentatively
Moved from Scarites. Seems to be more likely S. subterraneus, but still not conclusive.

Scarites in OK
Nearctic Scarites is badly in need of revision with key to species. Catalogue by Bousquet & Larochelle (1993) cites seven species in North America and three species in OK: S. lissopterus, S. quadriceps, S. subterraneus. Ways to reliably distinguish these three are most welcome!

Pedunculate Ground Beetle
Genus Scarites (Carabidae), one of the three US-species.
