Sandia hairstreaks were common this day on and in flight around its larval foodplant Nolina texana (beargrass) on Embudito Trl. (No. 192) at 6300 ft elevation (35°08'16.0"N 106°28'37.5"W) in the Sandia Crest 7.5’ quadrangle, Sandia Mountains, Bernalillo Co., NM.

The ventral surface colors of this species' wings, especially the hindwing, include an attractive shade of green. This is generally what is photographed in life since its wings are usually folded when landed. The dorsal surface, though, is drab by comparison.

This image is from a CombineZP processed stack of 57 images with a 181 µm step taken with a Nikon 200mm F/4 AF-D ED-IF Micro Nikkor macro set to F/4 + Nikon D810 camera.
