Robber Fly (Asilinae) - Ommatius

Robber Fly (Asilinae) - Ommatius
Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
July 30, 2007
Size: ~9-10mm
Found up the embankment of the rain-water retention pond at the office. It was resting on a Milkweed leaf at the edge of a narrow swath of overgrown vegetation separating parking lots.

Just guessing from images in the guide, is this an Ommatius sp?

Ommatius
certainly Ommatius and I'm guessing because of the almost entirely dark femora O. tibialis.

Ommatius sp.
Thanks for the confirmation and the insight to species. Will move to genus page for a bit while I try to confirm. Again, thank you.
