bristly millipede - Polyxenus

bristly millipede - Polyxenus
Chabot Park, Castro Valley, Alameda County, California, USA
January 2, 2017
Size: 2.5-3mm
Found a few of these inside a partially dead/decaying burl on a bay tree (Umbellularia californica). The tree had many burls near the base.
I think this is a beetle larva but am not sure. I remember seeing a photo of something like this years ago -- now can't find it!

thanks Ken!
No wonder I couldn't figure out what this was -- not an insect! Need to get a look at its legs.
