I presume. But a bit larger than ones I usually see,

Yes, one of the Giant aphids.
Genus Cinara I believe.

Thanks Natalie and Ken. I've added a couple more pics of the bugger. Unfortunately, these are all I got and none of them are very good.

I was thinking Giant Aphid, too...
...but I looked and looked and didn't see any with a head quite like this one. :)

Yeah its not a well represented genus.
The genus is difficult to ID, most species IDs are only made when the species of the host is also known. According to the information page there are about 152 in NA, but we only have 7 represented on the guide.

I found this one crawling on my ivy-covered fence, directly below both a black pine and a cedar.

I did not previously know of this genus, so I'll check more carefully this coming spring.
