ambush bug pair

ambush bug pair
Brossard, Quebec, Canada
July 29, 2007
A pair of ambush bugs. I understand that the males often sit on top of the females even though they are not mating, and many ambush bugs in this stand of goldenrod were doing just that, but in this case the male seems to be straddling the female sideways. Is this their mating position or has he just slipped off?
Thanks.

Looks like a big Oops! to me
Bet this guy isn't popular with the ladies. Normall, the male would be on top of the female. However, we had a recent post where the male was on the male was on the female. Guess these critters are out to re-define ambush.
