Very Large Unknown Moth

Very Large Unknown Moth
Franklin, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
July 17, 2007
Size: 3 to 4"
I came across this moth perched on a fence post. It was very big, one of the biggest I've come across in this area. I took some pictures but unfortunately didn't make note of too many details.
Any idea what kind of moth this is?

Frassed
Moved from Sphinx Moths.

Very worn sphinx moth.
This is an incredbily worn specimen of some kind of sphinx moth, quite possibly in the genus Manduca. Almost all the scales are rubbed off the wings, making further ID next to impossible.
