Red Wasps

I looked in the guide but the info was limited. I'm interested in the behaviour of Red Wasps - Polistes carolinus. I saw one yesterday (I will be posting pics this afternoon hopefully) of a Red Wasp attack on a grasshopper. I've been trying to get pics of these guys for a while so I always keep an eye out (quite painful) for them and I usually see them a lot but don't have very good photo ops. Well, yesterday I was out shooting and saw one flying around so of course I followed trying get a good picture. I noticed it kept circling around this one area and I was getting anxious for it to land but it seemed like it couldn't make up it's mind. Finally it sort of dropped out of the air on to a plant. From my vantage point I couldn't tell what it was doing but it sure seemed determined and I thought it's behaviour was kind of strange but I started shooting anyway. Finally I saw what it was doing. It apparently had attacked a large grasshopper and was chomping away at it like Rosanne Barr on a twinkie! Obviously I never realized how vicious they are and certainly never realized they were "meat" eaters but this one definitely was. By the time I figured out what it was doing it had already ate the head off the grasshopper and was working its way down. I could see it's mandibles chewing on the grasshopper. Extremely cool ! Anyway I went to the guide to read up on them but didn't see much info. Does anyone know where I might look for more information ?

Update :
Just so everyone knows I did go to the internet references cited on the carolinus info page here http://bugguide.net/node/view/581 but I'm mainly interested in their feeding habits and food sources which I still can't find.

Update :
The images are posted here http://bugguide.net/node/view/133364/bgimage

I
dont know where you can find good info on them. But i am interested in your story. I have never seen any kind of paper wasp hunt like you described. The only sort of hunting behavior i have ever seen them do is just landing in a patch of weeds and crawling around until they find a catipillar. I have never seen them take anything as big or active as a grasshopper. I hope you post some pictures!

Ok
I am going to try to get them posted later today when I get home....assuming my wife doesn't have any honey-do's for me.
