I photographed this Dragonfly in the late evening near a small pond on the property, at aprox. 2000Ft in elevation. The area is 10 miles North of Republic and 20 miles south of the Canadian Border, I belive that it was on the 20th of July but am not positive

Moved from Western Meadowhawk.

Moved from Band-winged Meadowhawk. All of our western specimens are currently posted to occidentale. We thought it best to keep these all together till an Odonata expert decides how to handle them.

I have added side views, both left and a partial right , to give better visuals of the specimen, thanks for the suggestions so far.

Perhaps a teneral Widow Skimmer?
Whatever it is, it looks like it doesn't have all its color yet.

or teneral
Western Meadowhawk?

Is that a split
from Band-winged (S. semicinctum)?

We can never keep track of whether
occidentale and semicinctum are currently lumped or currently split. This splitting and lumping is too much for our poor brains!!

We checked Odonata Central
and they don't list occidentale as a separate species. They list four different subspecies of semicinctum which all seem to overlap in many ways. It all seems very confusing to us. We will post a message on the taxonomy forums about how we want to handle the images currently posted to occidentale.
