Asian Wasp?? - Tremex columba - Female

Size: 2 inches
My son found this wasp type of insect on a tree. I've never seen a wasp like this before. Any help identifying this insect would be greatly appreciated.

Pigeon tremex.
This is a female pigeon tremex horntail wasp, Tremex columba. Please see our guide pages for the species, and various .edu websites for more info. This is actually a common insect, though adults are not often seen.

Check out the Horntails
in the guide here while you wait for a species ID from one of the experts.
