Thanks for your reply Adalbert. The S. atripes seems to have a striped abdomen whereas the bee in my photos were solid black. ?

I am learning a lot from the helpful folks here but have only scratched the surface. How did you determine it was a female? Did those hairy back legs have anything to do with it?
