Decorated Geometrid Caterpillar - Synchlora

Decorated Geometrid Caterpillar - Synchlora
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 5, 2007
Size: about 1 cm
The survival strategy of this caterpillar seems pretty obvious. Does anyone know any more details about which caterpillar(s)decorate themselves such as this one?

Synchlora
Info in the guide here

Thanks.
I've seen several adult Synchlora aerata recently in my yard, although I know that frondaria also is found in Durham.
