black assassin bug - Reduvius personatus

black assassin bug - Reduvius personatus
Brossard, Quebec, Canada
August 7, 2007
Size: 1.5cm
This was resting upside down in a spiders web (funnel web). The spider was agitated but avoided the bug - probably a good decision. I think it is a masked hunter or black corsair assassin bug, but none of the images show the very conspicuous orange patch that is seen in the other photo.
