Bee Fly - Lepidophora lepidocera

Bee Fly - Lepidophora lepidocera
Charlotte Latta Plantation Raptor Center garden, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA
August 4, 2007
Size: about 1.5 cm
This was taken by a friend while we were doing a NABA count for Mecklenburg County, NC butterflies. I thought it was a Chysopilus. It is instead a Lepidophora. I was hoping that enough of the insect is visible to ID the species.

Looks to me like...
Lepidophora lepidocera - Hunchback Bee Fly

Not a snipe fly
This is a Beefly - Bombyliidae. Probably in the genus Lepidophora

Looks to me/Not a Snipe Fly.. et al
Thanks very much.

Jules
