Five-spotted Hawk Moth - Manduca quinquemaculatus

Five-spotted Hawk Moth - Manduca quinquemaculatus
Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, California, USA
September 10, 1973
Size: Wingspan 120mm
From my old notes: "I found this moth stuck on one of the spiny tips of a big agave plant at a home that I did gardening work. There was a Loggerhead Strike bird that I saw frequently around that home and neighborhood, so I assume that the moth was captured and impaled there by the bird. You can see some of the damage done by the bird and the agave spine on the underside of this moth."
