Size: 4-5mm long x 2-3mm high
summertime, hot, dry, along New River on granite w/moss. never seen one like this.

Wow! Very impressed! That is the exact creature I took the picture of.
I didn't even mention that it was in an oaken area.The link you gave was perfect, especially the picture "Treehoppers, nymphs - Platycotis vittata". Thank you John and/or Jane.

Strange. Yes.
almost looks mechanical. It's shell looked like it was one piece front to back. also looked hard and durable. but i didn't test that theory.Just took the picture and let it be.
