Midge Galls - Celticecis spiniformis

Midge Galls - Celticecis spiniformis
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
April 2, 2017
Are these wasp galls of some type? If so, what kind of wasp? I found only the two of these on a leaf, unsure of the tree though.

Galls
There are no galls that resemble this known from maple. Can you double-check the tree ID, and/or post a photo showing an entire leaf?

.
Charley, I thought it might be a hackberry.

Not Maple
Come to think of it (it was over a week ago), it might not have been maple. I don't know the tree name, but the leaves were much smaller with a more traditional "leaf shape". I could go out and take a photo of it today and add it to the sighting.

My guess...
...is that it's some kind of hackberry, and the galls are made by a midge in the genus Celticecis.

Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion Charley. It's certainly closer than anything else I've found on the 'net so far. They do look very similar. Added a picture of the tree and leaves if that would help any.

Thanks for the additional photos
This is definitely some kind of hackberry (Celtis), and I think it's sugarberry (Celtis laevigata). So the gall is a Celticecis midge as I thought.

Glad they were helpful.
Thanks Charley for your ID, hope the extra pics were helpful. :)
