If the photo was taken on 5/23,
that is the date that should appear in the date field. Unless you feel that date doesn't represent the activity in the image because of artificial conditions, in which case no date should appear in the date field. But we shouldn't have a false date in the date field which would confuse extracted data.

.
This one is a wild specimen collected on 5/12/16 and kept for a while in captivity for observation.
So, in the date field, I always put the day of find/collect (for wild specimens)
The day of taken of picture is not important except when important changes happen (like color, lay eggs, life cycle). In cases like this I noted under remarks the date when the picture was taken to give an idea about how the change happen.
I don't know a better way to note such cases.

Our point is that anyone mining data
from your images will assume that the color change and the egg sac creation happened on May 12, because that is the date you put in the date field. People doing computer searches will not look in the remarks for a date different from the one in the date field. They will take the date from the date field. After all, that is why the date field exists. We feel you should change your policy and put the correct date of the image in the date field. We will add a link to this discussion in the forums so others can chime in and say what they think. Thanks for considering this.
