Cool Xystodesmid

Cool Xystodesmid
Powell Butte, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA
April 9, 2017
Size: Harpaphe sized
Hi, Bugguide

I found this neat Xystodesmid under a log on Powell Butte. It was the size of a Harpaphe haydeniana. It secreted cyanide, and it pooped an awful lot. I really don't recall Harpaphe pooping as much as this little guy did.

Thanks for your help,
Phil

possibly Thrinaphe hargeri
Given the lack of color on the paranota and the overall blueish sheen to this one, it seem more likely that this one is Thrinaphe hargeri. Location is also consistent with this species.

Shelley 1994 lists Chonaphe armata as being in that county; definitely the tribe Chonaphini.

Chonaphe
I'll try to find this one again and get a picture of the gonopods. Does this seem kinda like what a Chonaphe armata should look like?

Thanks for your help,
Phil
