funnel weaver? - Trochosa

funnel weaver? - Trochosa
Charleston, Orleans County, Vermont, USA
April 10, 2017
small spider found in a student's home. She prevented her dad and brother from killing it, and they then made a habitat for it so she could bring it to school for photos. The kids now let spiders walk on their hands and arms! It looks like a funnel weaver to us, but we find spider ID baffling. You can see eyes in these photos. Abdomen is whitish underneath in the photos. Sometimes I think I see palps sometimes I don't.

Female
This looks like a female in the genus Trochosa, but I'm not sure of the species.

thank you for confirming gender, too. The kids were thrilled to hear it was a wolf spider. They have a special love of them (because of the name, I think).
:-)

The eyes say Wolf spider
Lycosidae
