What characters would you need to see to get it to species?

 
Dorsal photo
Of a dry specimen would help. The last photo in your series is the best angle. Many Stenelmis require examination of the aedeagus (male naughty bits) for a species ID. Having said that, I'm pretty sure your specimen is S. crenata.

I'll get some better dorsal shots and occasionally when I put beetle specimens in alcohol the genitalia comes out, so I'll give that a try.
