Violin spider ? - Latrodectus hesperus

Violin spider ? - Latrodectus hesperus
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
July 1, 2007
Size: 3/4"
I saw this rather skinny spider in my house on the wall . It looks like a dangerous spider but it's fangs were small . My husband thinks that it could be a violin spider , is it poisionous ? It is the first time that I have seen a spider like this with such an interesting pattern . I would appreciate any help in identification as I have kids and a nosy dog , thanks , sincerely Beth ..... the shutterbug

Not a brown recluse (violin spider)
This looks like a male western black widow (latrodectus hesperus).
