These appeared in masses on chainfruit and versicolor chollars, eating the young 'leafs' but also the stems.

Thanks, Bob, I hadn't heard of the species. The younger ones definitely looked like your pic. As to 'rarely seen'? there are definitely lots of them on our land. I'm trying to raise some in a terrarium.
