Digrammia triviata? - Digrammia delectata

Digrammia triviata? - Digrammia delectata
20 miles southwest of Llano, Llano County, Texas, USA
April 23, 2017
Size: fw = 9-10 mm

I vote for D. triviata
D. delectata is a moth of the western U.S., very sparse in far west and NW Texas, whose larval foodplants include buckwheats (Eriogonum spp.) and Ceanothus, both of which are very uncommon in the Llano area. This moth matches Ferguson's(1) description of the juniper-feeding D. triviata.

Chuck - we actually have 2 wi
Chuck - we actually have 2 wild buckwheat species here at the ranch - Eriogonum tenellum var. ramosissimum and Eriogonum annuum. The first is quite common throughout the ranch, which has granitic soils. The second appears mostly in an area along a perennial creek about 3/4 mile from where I saw the moth.

Does this make a difference in your analysis?

Hal

Useful info
That you have a couple of Eriogonum's is interesting (but not surprising). Compared to the western US where Eriogonum's are diverse and abundant, your buckwheats seem less likely to host Digrammia delectata--not impossible, but I don't like the odds: Central Texas is still way out of range for this species.

Check the shape and also the angle of the PM line, near the costal edge. Otherwise, these two species are very similar.
