Eastern Tent Caterpillar? - Malacosoma americana

Eastern Tent Caterpillar? - Malacosoma americana
Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, USA
April 26, 2017
The caterpillars laid a path of silk strands heading up their colony onto the tree trunk and then onto a branch. The silk line was used as a 2-way path. The caterpillars going in opposite directions will frequently butt heads and negotiate who would go on the left or the right side. Mostly, the caterpillars chose their right side of the "road".
