Big fly - Xenox tigrinus

Big fly - Xenox tigrinus
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
I thought it quite large for a fly; around 2.5 cm I think.
I had never seen one before or since, so may be uncommon (at least out in the open).
The photographs are dated Aug 18, 2013, but I can't be sure my camera's date was accurate.
I'm very curious to know its name. Thanks.

Welcome to BugGuide!

Amazing, thanks
I followed the path to Xenox tigrinus and see there are several similar looking flies. Really impressed how quickly I received a positive ID.

Thanks Ken!
