Katydids of Southern Ontario - Amblycorypha - female

Katydids of Southern Ontario - Amblycorypha - Female
Beamsville, Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada
August 15, 2007
This is a female I think, Katydids. I have a hard wood forest behind my house and when August comes the night air is filled with these guys singing their wings off. It feels like I am living in a rain forest.

Amblycorypha sp.
Species in this genus can apparently only be separated by their song.

So do you need...
...the frequency and amplitude of each CHIT? LOL.

Isn't there a site where you can listen and ID? I know birders enjoy such.

They actually sing?
Around here I'm pretty sure they're the ones just making the loud "CHITCHITCHITCHIT!" sound.

Fun photo!
I realize it's on plastic, but it looks to be jumping up from a trampoline.

I love that sound!
